The Monkey Review: Absolutely Bananas Stephen King Horror!

Horror and comedy often make for an unpredictable mix, and The Monkey is no exception. This Stephen King long-forgotten short-story film adaptation is a must-watch for fans of chaotic, over-the-top storytelling. If you have seen the trailers, it’s exactly what you would expect: chaotic, gory, unhinged, and extremely funny.

A Balance of Comedy and Carnage

While The Monkey certainly delivers on brutal, outrageous kills, the film leans more heavily into comedy. This approach works in its favour, creating a horror experience that is as entertaining as it is brutal. The humour is sharp, the chaos is relentless, and the film guarantees both laughs and winces in equal measure.

Theo James Shines in a Dual Role

One of the film’s biggest highlights is Theo James, who takes on the challenging dual role of twin brothers Bill and Hal. The story follows the siblings as they uncover their father’s old toy monkey—a seemingly harmless toy monkey that soon proves to be anything but. Theo James executes these two roles very well and you’re in for a treat with this!

A Word of Advice…

If you happen to come across an old toy monkey, maybe think twice before turning the key! The Monkey is a wild, bloody, and darkly hilarious ride—one that horror-comedy fans won’t want to miss.

The Monkey releases in UK Cinemas on February, 21st!
