Mission: Impossible: The Final Reckoning marks the end of an era, bringing Ethan Hunt’s saga to a close. While it delivers the franchise’s signature blend of explosive action and jaw-dropping stunts, it unfortunately stumbles in pacing resulting in a finale that’s both exhilarating and uneven.
Let’s start with the obvious: Tom Cruise is still unmatched in his commitment to cinematic spectacle. Whether he’s hurtling off a cliff on a motorcycle, scaling impossible heights, or sprinting through set-pieces with commendable intensity, Cruise gives everything to the role. His dedication is as much the heart of this franchise as the IMF team itself. Every frame screams practical effects and precise choreography, something which is increasingly more rare in today’s CGI-heavy world.

That said, the film struggles to maintain narrative momentum. The first half drags under the weight of convoluted exposition, recycling themes and character motivations that never quite feel urgent. The film tries a little too hard to recapture the highs of Fallout and Dead Reckoning Part One without carving enough new ground. Some of our slower moments go on for perhaps too long and begin to suspend believability and patience.
The stunts, of course, are nothing short of insane. Underwater chaos, vault infiltration, and a heart-stopping aerial plane sequence all showcase the kind of meticulous stunt work Cruise and director Christopher McQuarrie have perfected over the years. These moments are worth the ticket price alone.

Where The Final Reckoning does succeed is in its emotional payoff. Long-standing character arcs are wrapped up with care, and the finale offers a satisfying sense of closure. But you can’t help but wish the film had taken a few more narrative risks and delivered a story that matched the ambition of its action.
